Bio

So what do I do?

Well I’m a Entrepreneur, Marketer, Youtuber, Consultant, Podcaster, Reseller, website creator of sorts! Hmmm well when you say it that way……Maybe that’s why when people ask what I do my stock answer is, umm I’m a consultant. Uhh what kind? Business development! Oh ok…….Hey its true, I am a consultant and I do work with business and other entrepreneurs. Gone are the days where you define yourself by what you do! Well at-least for me they are.

How did I get started?

Well I’m from the pacific northwest, I grew up loving the outdoors and working with my hands so construction seemed like a good option. I got started in construction working part time and summers at 14, by the age of 17 I was working as a carpenter and building cabinets. By 21 I started my first “REAL” business as a contractor. The business quickly took off and with in a year I had over a dozen employees, my first company and my first big success. As much as I love working with my hands I knew I did not want to be a contractor my whole life but construction was all I knew. I decided to make a shift and get in to Marketing and consulting after the meltdown in 08, as I did not want to spend $1 to make $.25 cents and struggle to keep the lights on like many other contractors I knew. I ended up working for two different company’s over the next two years in a marketing firm and doing some consulting and advertising. I also started two businesses, Both businesses failed and both positions where not for me so I moved on. Going from success at a young age to back to back failure is never easy but I knew I had to find my niche. Having one kid and another on the way I decided to take a job as a consultant with a national consulting firm, unfortunately with the economy still in the gutter this position was shaky at best and performance based. With my office about to get shut down the company ended up firing everyone after my first year, however I stayed on to rebuild the office by myself. A HUGE challenge but I knew I could do it and was worth the reward if I succeeded.

It was this time in Late 2009 early 2010 I got interested in web design and auctions, both storage and auction houses. What started as a hobby grew in to a passion. I love finding cool, unique, rare items. While I sell both on Ebay and Amazon FBA, I also dabble on Bonanza and other small platforms as well. I decided I didn’t want to be a web designer for a business overall, I love building websites and building personal projects on the side but it was not my career of choice so I worked as the General Manager at this consulting firm while going to auctions on the side, weekends, nights, when ever I could. I ended up re building my office to a multi million dollar operation, the highest numbers that this specific location has ever done and building an amazing team along the way, however I was building someone else’s dream not my own.

For me I have built a six figure company, I have had six figure jobs and built a multi Million dollar office but the thing that matters more then anything is TIME!

To me the most important thing is spending time with my wife and two daughters who all also enjoy working with me and having fun doing what we do.

So what do I do now?

WE HAVE FUN DOING WHAT WE LOVE!

I am building my little Media/Marketing company with Video based Info products and Internet marketing

I run a few Niche websites

I also enjoy pod-casting on my podcast at freelancewrangler.com and making my YouTube videos

I sell on Amazon FBA

Bio

Todd R. Tresidder’s financial writing has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Smart Money Magazine, Investor’s Business Daily, Yahoo Finance, Bankrate.com, and more. He is a former hedge fund manager who “retired” at age 35 to become a financial consumer advocate and money coach. In his spare time he’s an outdoor recreational enthusiast with varied interests from backpacking and adventure travel to endurance running and cycling. He writes 9 months out of the year from his home in Reno, Nevada while his kids are in school and plays the rest of the year.

Former investment hedge fund manager turned writer and financial educator who offers coaching, a blog, and ebooks on how to build wealth and invest smarter.

Goal is to help millions of people lead happier, more productive lives by freeing themselves from the financial tyranny caused by poor decisions and planning.

Specialties: Money coach, investment strategy, internet marketing, writing, financial coaching, wealth building strategy.

A. in Economics from University of California at Davis
Member of Economics Honors Society and Deans List
A serial entrepreneur since childhood building many businesses and retiring at age 35 from his position as a Hedge Fund Investment Manager responsible for a 20+ million dollar portfolio.
Todd’s portfolio management for the Hedge Fund produced 100% winning years except one which was less than a 5% loss.
Raised net worth from less than zero at age 23 to self-made millionaire 12 years later by “walking the talk” using the same personal finance and investment strategies taught on this web site.
An early pioneer and expert in statistical and mathematical risk management systems for investing.
Financially independent from age 35 through investing – not marketing – unlike many other financial gurus who made their money through marketing courses and books.
Still an active investor who earns consistent investment returns in both up and down markets.
The point of these factoids is to demonstrate that I teach personal finance and investing based on real experience. I walk the talk and have the results to prove it. I do not teach ivory tower theories or inaccurate conventional wisdom: instead, I show you what works, what doesn’t, and why – all based on actual, provable, experience.

With that said, there is a serious limitation to the financial and professional data cited above. It tells you about my financial and investment expertise, but it doesn’t tell you anything about me as a person. In other words, there are many self-proclaimed financial experts with impressive resumes so what is different about Todd?

The most obvious difference is I made my money investing in publicly traded markets just like you can do; whereas, many financial experts made their money through becoming best-selling authors and marketing financial advice to you. Unless you plan on writing a best-selling book and building a marketing empire you may find difficulty duplicating their success.

Another key difference is the focus of my message. My focus is on personal development and how the pursuit of financial freedom provides a transformational path to personal fulfillment. This stands in stark contrast to other money experts who use lavish lifestyles and fancy vacations to sell their message. My focus is on the experience of life, not the toys and goodies.

Many investment gurus drive flashy cars, wear expensive clothes, and live in mansions. I don’t. I dress on the casual side of average, drive ordinary cars, and live in a nice home in a nice but not extraordinary neighborhood. In short, I’m the classic “Millionaire Next Door” as described in the book with the same title by Stanley and Danko.

I also live very traditional values where I believe in treating people fairly and giving more value than I take in business relationships. The result is my former business associates remain good, personal friends to this day, and my business endeavors have not left a trail of bankruptcies, lawsuits and controversy like so many other financial experts. Financial results are important, but money won’t contribute to fulfillment if your life and relationships are a mess.

The reason I choose an ordinary but comfortable lifestyle is because I prefer to build net worth instead of overhead so I can enjoy freedom instead of flash. I didn’t pursue wealth so that I could buy everything I wanted: I pursued wealth so I could do whatever I desired, and be whatever I was capable of being. I value experience over stuff.

I’ve never wanted the mansions, private jets, flashy sports cars, and other encumbrances that the get-rich-quick gurus try to sell you on. I’m too environmentally conscious to consume at such a wasteful level. Besides, that is the mistaken pursuit of material wealth as a substitute for happiness. It doesn’t work.

I find joy in life experience, intellectual pursuits, and relationships. First on the list is family and friends closely followed by reading stimulating books, enjoying outdoor recreation like running, swimming, skiing, hiking, cycling, camping, backpacking, travel, and I love personal growth. I do exactly as I please: I don’t report to a boss and nobody owns my time except me (and maybe my wife). I take three months of vacation per year and usually wake up without an alarm.

None of this costs much money but it does take time, and that is why I pursued financial freedom in my own life and support others to do the same – so that you have the time to do what gives you more joy in life without worrying about money – so that you can live true wealth by finding fulfillment and happiness.

I teach the pursuit of financial freedom as a transformational path because that’s what it was for me. I grew in ways I never imagined, and I am happier for it. The money was nice, but the inner transformation was the bigger reward.

And that is why I formed Financial Mentor – to share that journey with you. To grow a community of like minded individuals who are passionate about building wealth and financial freedom because it improves the quality of life for themselves and their families.

I enjoy working with business owners and investors who share my passion for enjoying more of what is important in life. Financial Mentor gives me a forum where I can share the lessons of my business and investment experience. I don’t stand above you on a pedestal, but instead stand as a fellow traveler on the same life path with valuable experience to share.

Combining cutting edge investment and business development strategy together with the latest personal growth technology into a transformative journey to financial freedom is my unique gift to share with the world. It is a way I can help others while helping myself.

Gregory Gaultier is a professional squash player from France. He has won the 2015 World Open Squash Championship, the British Open twice, in 2007 and 2014, the Qatar Classic in 2011, the US Open twice, in 2006 and 2013, the Tournament of Champions in 2009, and the PSA World Series Finals thrice, in 2008, 2009 and 2016. He reached the final of the World Open in 2006, 2007, 2011 and 2013, and the World No. 1 ranking in 2009. Gaultier is affectionately known to his friends as Rubbery Gaultier.
Gaultier was the European junior squash champion in 2000 and 2001. He also won a British Junior Open title and finished as the runner-up at the World Junior Squash Championships.

In 2003, Gaultier was a member of the French team which finished runners-up to Australia at the World Team Squash Championships. In the semi-finals against England, Gaultier won the deciding match against Lee Beachill which took France through to the final.

At the 2006 World Open, Gaultier defeated World No. 1 and defending-champion Amr Shabana in the semi-finals, before losing in five games in the final to David Palmer 11–9, 11–9, 9–11, 10–11 (4–6), 2–11. In 2007, Gaultier again reached the World Open final, losing 7–11, 4–11, 6–11 to Shabana.

At the 2007 British Open, Gaultier defeated his fellow Frenchman Thierry Lincou in the final 11–4, 10–12, 11–6, 11–3. He became the first French winner of the British Open.

At the 2009 Tournament of Champions, Gaultier defeated the world No.1 Karim Darwish in the semifinal, and beat Nick Matthew in the final with a score 11–9, (2–11), 11–8, 11–4. He is the only Frenchman to have won the title.

Gaultier moved to the top of the world ranking on November 2009, a feat achieved after losing in the final of the Hong Kong Open a month earlier.[1] In 2009 he became the second French player to become world no 1.[2]

Gaultier has since won the Qatar Classic and reached the semi-finals of the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions, and later won the Case Swedish Open after dispatching Karim Darwish in the finals.

In 2013 he was Gold medalist of the World Games in Cali against Simon Rosner in the final. He won the US Open against Nick Matthew 11-4, 11-5, 11-5. Two weeks later, he reached the World Championship final for the fourth time, losing again 11-9, 11-9, 11-13, 7-11, 11-2 to Nick Matthew.

In February 2014 he once again reached the top of the World Ranking, but again only for a month, as was the case in November 2009. One month later, in March, he won the Metro Squash Windy City Open, an other PSA World Series tournament in the University Club of Chicago beating the apparently injured Ramy Ashour in the final 11–7, 11–3, 11–4. In April he reached World Number 1 ranking for the third time.
In May he won the British Open for the second time beating Nick Matthew in a very quick final 11-3, 11-6, 11-2.

Nir blogs at NirAndFar.com

Hi, I’m Nir.

This blog is about the intersection of psychology, technology, and business. I call it “behavioral design.” The topic encompasses user experience, behavioral economics, and a dash of neuroscience.

I write for TechCrunch, Forbes, Psychology Today, and am a frequent speaker at industry conferences and Fortune 500 companies. I’m the author of Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products and I have Lectured at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and Design School and have sold two technology companies since 2003.

For most of my career I’ve worked in the video gaming and advertising industries where I learned, applied, and at times rejected, the techniques used to motivate and manipulate users. I write to help companies create behaviors that benefit their users, while educating people on how to build healthful habits in their own lives.

Although I received most of my education earning an advanced degree from the The School of Hard Knocks, I also received an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Bio

In 1987 I was born in the middle of a January snowstorm in Missouri. I didn’t always have entrepreneurship in my blood. Growing up my dad worked for the state and my mom a pharmacist. There wasn’t much entrepreneurship in my extended family either: teachers, lawyers, doctors, insurance agents, but no entrepreneurs.

All in all I lived a pretty typical upper-middle class, midwestern childhood. I played soccer, baseball, basketball, swam and generally got exposure to all the opportunities I wanted because my parents went to great lengths to make sure I had those opportunities.

Music as Entrepreneurship

In middle school I took up playing the saxophone. I quickly fell in love. I would pull out Cannonball Adderley, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane and Ray Charles albums and try and play along.

At first I wasn’t very good, but over time I could hold my own with the local jazz musicians. In 9th grade I got asked to play my first professional gig and made $50 playing at the Missouri Governor’s Mansion for just three hours of my time.

This was the first time I ever got paid for a specialized skill that I had and not because I was a warm body that could perform menial tasks. I didn’t realize it at the time, but this was my first foray into entrepreneurship.

The Search in High School and College

Like many of my friends, in high school and college I had no idea what to do with my life. I blindly followed the rules, got good grades and made my teachers and parents happy.

I had a knack for math and science so everyone told me to I should be an engineer because that’s what engineers do. So in college I settled on majoring in industrial engineering even though I wasn’t super sure what they did at the time. I knew it had something to do with efficiency and that’s something I could get behind.

Eventually my junior year of college I decided that I needed to figure out what the heck I would do with my life so I took an internship with a major telecom provider because they paid well and it seemed like a stable gig.

Over the course of the summer I realized how much I hated corporate life. I would come into the office and work hard for a solid hour each day and surf the web the rest of the time. It was the worst.

The brutal irony is that my bosses loved what I did and praised my work every step of the way. I realized that summer that a “regular” job wasn’t for me.

Becoming an Entrepreneur

I didn’t decide on entrepreneurship immediately after that summer. All I knew was that I hated wasting away for 8 hours a day at a job I could do effectively in 1 hour a day.

That final year of school I started looking for different types of work I could do. Something a little outside the box and I found a small, local tech company that was looking for a marketing intern.

I had zero marketing experience at the time, but I picked up a Seth Godin book and talked my way into the job.

It turned out to be a pivotal turning point in becoming an entrepreneur.

Learning the Ropes

Over the next year as an intern and ffull-timeemployee at this local tech company I learned a lot about product and marketing. I had no idea what worked and what didn’t so I tried my hand at just about everything.

Essentially, I was honing my chops to become what I call a Full Stack Marketer.

After about a year I’d learned about as much as I could and started trying to build my own company. I spent my spare time selling people in the community on just about anything I could. I built WordPress sites, I whipped up email marketing templates, I built a small web app. Anything to learn problems that other business owners were having.

During the day I started working with local Columbia, Missouri entrepreneur, Brant Bukowksy, doing email marketing automation at VAMortgageCenter.com. It was there that then co-worker, Bryan Helmig, devised the initial seeds of our first startup, Zapier.

Diving In

In October of 2011, Bryan and I teamed up with our friend and local developer, Mike Knoop, to build the initial prototype of Zapier and win the first annual Columbia Startup Weekend.

After the weekend we worked nights and weekends to build the initial beta product for customers and in January of 2012 I was able to start my entrepreneurial journey full time by quitting my day job.

With the Zapier beta going well, we applied to Y Combinator’s summer 2012 batch and were accepted. In May of 2012 I moved to California with my wife and we’ve been loving it ever since.

Giving Back

I’m by no means an expert at anything, but I do have a lot of in-the-trenches experience at marketing, team building, fundraising, bootstrapping, and product. I love to help out when I can.

If you want to get a hold of me let me know if the form below. I usually dedicate one day a week to respond to these requests so it could take up to 7 days or so before I respond.

If it’s more urgent than that, then you’ll find a way to get in touch with me. 😀
